How to ask & get Constructive Criticism to grow Professionally!

It’s hard to have someone tell you what are doing badly, but, it’s also mission critical to your success. I have learnt to seek out feedback for myself, and it has become a foundational tenet for my growth. Here are 3 things I do to make the experience of receiving criticism less painful.

✌️I truly believe that, the more often I receive criticism, the better I will get at it

✌️I assess and control my own response to negative feedback

✌️I proactively try to imagine what criticism I might receive

✌️ And a valuable trick that I practice is:

I make it a point to reach out to industry leaders for feedback on an idea, draft, or my work most of them hesitate to give me honest feedback, and that’s when I use the scoring trick and I ask them to score it on a scale of 1-10. And, when I don’t receive a perfect 10, I initiate the question on how I can get closer to a 10.

This trick mostly works as they would now have to justify their score and it is a natural psychological motivator for them to come up with as much constructive criticism as possible and start coaching me on how to patch the gap.

After all positive criticism is a good friend and blatant flattery is a fake friend!

Have you tried this before, tell me your experience if not go o on and try this with a senior industry leader and see for yourself! ✍️ DM me for a Career Coaching Session with a Résumé & LinkedIn review.
