3 things you must never say during your job interview! – Part 2

My post last week on 3 things you must never say during your job interview was much appreciated & I got requests for more, so here’s a complied part 2.

?‍♀️Don’t say it’s on my resume: While it may be true that your resume may have all the required details to answer the interviewer’s question, it may sound extremely rude and insensitive to point them back to your resume. Instead, answer but adding an extra zing in your own words and further information. Try answering with an incident as an example that proves your experience or skills or explaining how your qualifications are relevant to the position.

?‍♀️Don’t ask what the company does: While answering Do you have any questions for us, don’t what the company does. It is expected that you do prior research to know the answer before attending the interview, plus it shows that you have a casual approach and have not invested time in researching the company and the position you are applying to. Focus on the company’s mission, vision, and core values while answering.

?‍♀️Don’t speak negatively about your previous employer or boss: The interviewer may ask you questions like “Why are you looking for a new job?” or “What didn’t you like about your previous positions?” Answering these types of questions in a manner that avoids saying anything negative about your previous employer or the job can show your ability to remain professional and positive regardless of the situation. Positive answers to these questions can also give the interviewer confidence that you will be a good addition to their company’s culture and that you probably wouldn’t say anything negative about them in the future either. When answering questions about your previous employer, try to focus on things the position you are applying to has to offer that your previous employer wasn’t able to offer.
