It is imperative that you get the most out of your job offer. There is no doubt in my mind that we all do. The reality is, however, that including unwanted information such as your salary expectations or even existing salary or putting out a declaration on your resume can be seen by hiring managers as a major red flag.
➡️SALARY EXPECTATIONS
When you set the bar too low, you’ll undersell yourself, and if you set the bar too high, you’ll end up with the rejection pile at the end of the day. In addition to this, you can also harm your ability to negotiate further down the road if you do this.
Aside from that, talking about money too prematurely can convey a message that you are only interested in the job because of the money. This is not because you are truly passionate about the company or the position.
Therefore, unless a particular job description specifically asks you to include your salary expectations, you should not include this information on your resume.
➡️RESUME DECLARATION
The Statement of Declaration was part of the resume way back in the days when candidates used to write to employers through a letter. This was a formal way of approaching an employer.
When you are skimming through the current samples of resume templates, you will find that there are still instances where the declaration part is still included in a few of them. it will not hinder your selection chances or make a bad impression if the recruiter doesn’t find it. However, it is a pure waste of valuable space on your document’s real estate.
First of all, a resume is not a legal document that must include a statement like ‘I hereby declare that…’. Rather, it is a marketing document that you use to sell yourself to the right employers.
Secondly, a resume in itself is a declaration. You are expected to write only true information in the document. There is no need for a declaration statement on your resume to prove that all the information in that document is accurate.
