STOP MAKING UNJUSTIFIABLE CLAIMS ON YOUR RESUME

You probably remember the episode of Friends where Joey had to send his resume for a dance audition.

Over smart Joey decided to include false statements in his resume such as:

➡️ 3 years of modern dancing with Twyla Tharp in 20+ acts.

➡️ 5 years with the American ballet theatre with 10 acts every year.

All of the above, however, weren’t true. During the interview (audition) Joey had to explain the dancing steps to the group when the dance captain didn’t show up at the audition.

So what happened? Not only did Joey fail, but he also didn’t get the job in an embarrassing situation.

The truth can cost you an interview if you lie on your resume about everything from your degree to your previous employment history.

The purpose of resume screening is to prevent such embarrassment.

While it is very critical to include a list of facts and figures, quantifying, and highlighting your accomplishments on your resume, make sure that anything you claim can be substantiated with proof.

Having solid facts and figures isn’t enough. Also, it means that if you refer to a company as an industry leader or yourself as the best marketer, you have the credentials and proof to back it up.

Recruiters might not look at every single detail on your resume, but if they do and discover you’re making false claims, it could cost you the job.

Instead, write & present cleverly formulated facts that are easy to justify.
