Having a well-organized resume that includes the right elements and information can help you earn an interview. Even though every person’s resume is different, there are some sections you should always include and some that are optional. Organizing your resume depends on the job you are applying for and where you are in your career. Here is a list of standard and optional parts of a resume and the most effective way to arrange them:
Listed below are mandatory sections:
Contact information / Location
Summary Or Objective
Work Experience & Years
Education / Certifications
Competencies or Hard Skills (Keywords)
Listed below are optional sections:
Volunteer work
Awards & Recognition
Interests& Languages
Associations & Publications
Conferences & Training
References & Testimonials
Soft Skills
Extra-Curricular
⏯️As a fresher, your education will be more valuable than your experience, so put it first. Any leadership roles in clubs, sports teams, or student associations should be included under extracurricular activities. Include an objective if you are a fresher.
⏯️If you are a mid- or senior-level employee, emphasize your experience and achievements over sections such as education. Other sections you might include are publications and speaking engagements.
⏯️If you are changing careers to a new role or industry, focus on your most past achievements and transferable skills that are relevant to the target job. Don’t list all your past positions that may not be relevant to the job you are applying for. Include clearly that you looking for a career change in your summary.
