PRODUCE A RESUME THAT DOES NOT APPEAR GENERIC!

Applying blindly without reading the full job description is an obvious mistake you should avoid. Recruiters should not have to guess or wonder why you are applying to this role, the organization, or the industry, what are your motivations, etc after reading your resume.

Ensure the resume language is written in a way that indicates your genuine interest, and here are some exercises you may want to try:

↪️ Before applying take a minute to reflect on what it was about this job that made you want to apply in the first place?

↪️ Why do you think you are such a good fit for this role?

↪️Why do you think this company will want you?

↪️ Was there a specific part of the role that excited you?

↪️ Is there a specific part of your resume that will excite the recruiter?

↪️ Does the company’s mission particularly resonate with your own mission?

↪️ Research the company and industry to help you articulate further.

↪️ Once you are clear on your reasons for applying, match it to what the recruiter/employer is seeking.

↪️ Work on customizing your summary, competencies, and work accomplishments.

Look back at some of the research you’ve done a few times, and weave this in both your resume and in your cover letter. Showing the recruiter that you’ve done your homework at this early stage will reinforce your credibility.
