What are Keywords?

Keywords are search terms that help people find what they’re looking for online and in the job search world, resume keywords help recruiters find you.

Why Keywords?

Just like smart websites use the right keywords to rank up and make sure people find them in Google or other search engines, smart job seekers sprinkle keywords throughout a resume to make sure their resume is found when a recruiter searches for a specific job candidate, or someone with very specific skills on the job portal and to rank up amongst the various other job aspirants.

And importantly the ATS software is programmed to search for resumes with keywords related to job requirements; count and rank resumes in order of keyword frequency; place a higher value on more important keywords; uncover keyword spamming; rank a resume higher for using a keyword in a sentence with additional related skills

How to use Keywords?

Pick out keywords from job descriptions; examine from company websites; be as specific as possible; Don’t use abbreviations; sprinkle them throughout the resume, LinkedIn Profile, and Cover Letter; you may list them or use phrase them; double-check spellings; find alternatives and use variations as well; use hard skills more than soft skills as keywords
