RED FLAGS RECRUITERS LOOK FOR DURING INTERVIEWS

Today’s job market is competitive, and if you want to land a job, you must communicate your skills effectively. To be successful in an interview, you must demonstrate your skills, personality, and drive to prove that you are the right match over the other candidates.

However, as you prepare answers for interview questions, you should also know what red flags the hiring manager will look for. No matter how many achievements you have, you will not pass the interview if you make a mistake or show these red flags.

Here are a few to ponder:

❌🚩 “So, tell me what you guys do here”

Clearly demonstrates your carelessness and lack of research.

❌🚩 “Uff, my last company…”

Never badmouth a former employer no matter how bad it was.

❌🚩”My last boss was a monster”

Never speak poorly of your last boss either, shows your bickering side.

❌🚩”This interview is making me tense”

Don’t let the lack of confidence show.

❌🚩”I can do all kinds of work”

Shows that you lack focus and are not passionate about a specific role.

❌🚩”I know I lack experience here, but…”

By apologizing for lack of experience, you suggest that you wouldn’t be a good hire.

❌🚩 “It is on my resume”

A resume reference prevents you from illustrating and demonstrating your communication skills.

❌🚩”Yes, I have an answer to your question.”

Shows you have hyper-prepared and memorised answers.

❌🚩 “I, kinda, increased the sales for something like, 20%- 30%…”

Filler words like “like”, “um”, “something”, etc. can make you appear to lack confidence on the job since they lack credibility.

❌🚩 “I built dynamic partnerships with strategic alliances using cutting edge technology…”

Instead of being a jargon bot, describe actions & outcomes with the five senses.

❌🚩” I wrote the MMR reports”

Don’t use acronyms or jargon unless they’re absolutely industry-standard. Use language that everyone understands.
