?Develop multitasking & cross-functional leadership skills – CXOs oversee a variety of teams and departments and are involved in a variety of projects and challenges. Moreover, they will also have to oversee indirect reportees, which requires all new types of leadership and influence abilities.
?Make efforts to develop other managers – CXOs are expected to lead, inspire, and develop managers as part of their job. This is how company growth is secured. Businesses look for CXOs who can motivate and teach managers about leadership. It’s how the company secures its own future success.
?CXO’s set standards for excellence – Leaders must lead their teams to meet or exceed performance benchmarks while executing the established process. There will always be a need to improve performance based on a benchmark. However, a CXO needs to focus on setting new standards for future success and change. As a CXO, you will be leading a team through new processes that will probably be uncomfortable for most.
?Make your presence felt & forecast growth- Engage in networking with different individuals at the top and just below you in hierarchy. Discuss forecasted projections and ask what opportunities may arise in the next six to twelve months. Find current or upcoming obstacles to the growth & development. Make an action plan or timeline for the next steps and follow up on it.
?Consult with a Mentor- Don’t tackle this on your own. Having a sounding board will help you stay focused on your goals to become a CXO. A Mentor can offer you outside perspective and guidance when you need it. So even when life gets in the way and you’re swamped with other tasks, you will never lose sight of what’s important.
