As an erstwhile Recruiter, almost 90% of the resumes I have seen display a laundry list of highlighted soft skills and frankly speaking , this section is skipped because it feels like reading a list of self-flattery or vanity bragging.
A key strategy to adapt is to showcase your soft skills with a real-time instance rather than just listing them.
For example:
🏮 Don’t just write ‘Creative Approach’ as a skill, instead demonstrate it with an instance where your creative approach led to benefit the organization’s business process.
🏮 Don’t just write ‘Adaptable’ as a skill, instead think of a time in your previous roles when you had to adapt to a change in your role and describe it.
🏮 Don’t just write ‘Excellent Communication’ as a skill, instead talk about a time when your strong verbal communication helped the organisation collaborate better and build a stronger relationship with clients.
Every time you are appreciated for a skill don’t forget to refresh your resume with that skill by describing the instance. If you keep a master list of skills in the document, you can choose the ones you want to tailor to a particular application targeted to the role.
