If you want to be invited to an interview, it is imperative that your resume and cover letter answer recruiter’s questions precisely.
Ask yourself these questions to determine:
➡️ Is there a headline or tagline on your resume that summarizes who you are or what you’re looking for?
➡️Are you using a short resume summary of compelling information on your resume, avoiding clichés and long-winded explanations?
➡️Does your resume summary also double up as an elevator pitch?
➡️Is your core competency in line with the needs of potential employers, thereby enticing the reader to read more?
➡️Are you presenting only the information the reader needs to know without writing your whole work history?
➡️Are you able to hook the reader by introducing what you’ve done without showing the whole movie of how you did it?
➡️Do you have results, examples, and corresponding results on your resume?
➡️Have you explained relevant to the JD examples clearly and cogently and are prepared to discuss and back them up?
➡️Is the font, presentation, and layout of your resume consistent and aesthetically pleasing?
An irrelevant & sloppy resume will make recruiters believe that you are a sloppy candidate and will make them think that you are not relevant to the role irrespective of you being the best-fit candidate.
Taking time to tweak and fine-tune your resume to the target role always pays off with an interview call at the least.
