CUT THROUGH THE RECRUITMENT NOISE IN 2022

In the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, recruiting last year was extremely difficult for both recruiters & job seekers. The shortage of talent will continue to steer the job market, making it easier for job seekers to land decent roles if they play their cards right. This could also lead to higher salaries.

Is 2022 going to be different? How should today’s job seekers prepare for tomorrow’s trends?

?Start compiling a shortlist according to interview timelines. The interview process can take over three months, and some people simply do not have that time. Start making a list of companies you’re confident, or maybe even certain about based on the networking and research you have already done, and then apply with a targeted resume to get the interview.

?Make sure you use the same name everywhere. Employers will search for you on Google. Try to ensure employers can locate your name both online and offline in 2022. If you have a common name, you might want to consider using your middle initial or full middle name. You might use it for conferences you attend or present at, papers or articles you write or collaborate on, or one-on-one or group chats.

?Make an effort to customize and apply. Be consistent in your efforts. This can’t be overstated. You can’t cut through the noise if you use a ‘one size fits all’ approach to your job applications. No matter how nice your resume looks or how professional it is, it will never cut through the noise if you don’t tailor it to each role.

?Strike a balance between overview and detail. Another common mistake I observe is being too general or too specific.

?Avoid waffle and be concise. The recruiter has probably received another hundred resumes, so they don’t have time to read pages and pages of documents.

?Make sure you apply with purpose & intent. Instead of mass-mailing your resume to every opening on the market, select the roles you’re very interested in and explain why with your cover letter.
