BIGGEST JOB SEARCH MISTAKE TO AVOID!

You have no idea why you’re not getting the response you want in your job search. It’s time to review your approach and make sure you don’t make this huge mistake of not having a strategic approach to target employers.

You may think that by submitting 100’s of job applications, you’re conducting an effective job search. Wrong! Applying blindly to every job you see, usually does not produce good results. Spending 100% of your search time submitting online applications is not wise. Rather divide that time between researching & then applying.

Research and list out your ideal employers, the companies that interest you and are interested in your skills. By identifying your dream employers, you can tailor your applications to be noticed and hired by those employers.

How do you determine which companies to target?

⏭️Step 1 – Identify one dream company, the one that you follow and admire.
⏭️Step 2 – Identify parameters that align you and the company.
⏭️Step 3 – Identify the competitors that operate in a similar space of your dream company.
⏭️Step 4 – Research to see if these companies also align with your job requirements.
⏭️Step 5 – Reach out to friends, mentors, and old colleagues and seek their feedback.
⏭️Step 6- Tailor your resume to the role and highlight skills/experience that this company values the most.

Having a target list of companies is a great way to keep the chaos of your job search under control. Whether you end up with six companies or two dozen, knowing what you’re after will not only make it easier for you to know what your next steps should be but also help you stay focused on your goal.

Your resume should clearly tell a hiring manager why you are qualified for the position being offered and how your skills and experience will value add to the role and benefit the company.
