PM resume

HOW TO WRITE A STRONG PROJECT MANAGEMENT RESUME

Perhaps you’re interested in becoming a project manager (PM), moving projects forward & keeping technical staff focused on bigger-picture business goals. There is a chance that you already have a PM job but are seeking greener pastures or higher compensation.

Remember the initial sourcing is done by either a junior or a system BOT. Here are tips tailored for writing an impactful PMs resume, LinkedIn profile, and Cover Letter.

?️Focus on what’s important to your future employer and target your resume to the JD.

?️Avoid very heavy technical language ( maintain a bit), jargon, abbreviations & write in layman’s language.

?️Tailor them with technical knowledge within the area you want to work in, rather than adding more irrelevant skills.

?️Include industry-relevant keywords and those synonymous with the terms on the JD.

?️Avoid writing internal terms, department names, internal project names, and specific vocabulary used only inside your company.

?️Remember your impact on the job trumps your day to day tasks & responsibilities

?️PM’s career is built from a series of  projects that might have widely differing deliverables.

?️ Structure your resume around the results you’ve delivered to internal or external clients.

?️ Describe the business impact you had with this project, how did it benefit the client or your organization?

?️Include if your project opened newer markets, generated revenue, reduced costs, or enhanced operations

?️Be clear &  concise when describing your performance. Use language that is easy & quickly understood in context.

?️Quantifying your achievements is a must to make your impact credible.

?️Put in any non-commercially sensitive details that you can, like the project’s budget, duration in years or months, amount of training hours delivered, or anything that shows the scale of work you did.

?️Be careful not to divulge sensitive/confidential information. The best method is to use percentages instead of actual numbers

?️Show off your certifications, with completion date , expiry date & institute name. Add these certifications with an (R) mark.

?️Know the difference between training for PMP / CPM & actually getting certified. Be honest with what you declare.

?️Try to show the human side as well with interests & volunteer activities etc.

?️Don’t list your soft skills i.e. leadership or communication or problem-solving, rather demonstrate them in your bullet points.

After all, a structured & easily readable resume itself demonstrates your ability to organize & efficiently deliver information, which is crucial to success as a PM.
