Clients have mostly expressed that performing a job search can be a daunting and sometimes stressful experience. Whether it is for their first job or a lateral move. The demands of a job search can be overwhelming especially as one climbs the ladder and reaches a senior leadership level.
Data from surveys done with a large audience in India suggest that the biggest challenge that a job seeker faces is not getting a response for their job application followed by not being able to craft a tailored resume, not being noticed among the huge applicant list, to not having any insider information on the position.
? No Revert from companies: This simply means you are not shortlisted, and usually, companies don’t bother to notify applicants when they aren’t selected for a job.
Resolution: Revisit your career communication documents i.e. Resume, Cover Letter, & LinkedIn Profile checking for any mismatch between the JD and your documents. It can be as simple as years of experience or location or not fitting into their mandatory requirements or not following specific application instructions.
? Not being noticed: It’s important to note that the overall number of open positions is much lower than the number of job seekers applying for the position. Due to the large pool of applicants, recruiters and hiring managers cannot dedicate sufficient time to each application, and hence candidates are not readily noticed. Also, the infamous automated software / Applicant Tracking System (ATS) is used to help scan large pools of resumes to rank & shortlist.
Resolution: Always tailor your resume to what a potential employer is looking for with the right industry-relevant keywords and use an ATS-friendly format and structure while applying.
A huge chunk also said that silence from the recruiters during or after the recruitment process is one of their biggest challenges. Silence from a recruiter can only mean that you have not moved up to the next level or you or your resume has not been able to impress or catch the recruiter’s attention.
