Do you have a job search framework? Or Do you apply to jobs randomly in a haphazard manner?
While many of you may argue with me that who’s got the time to follow a strategy or framework for a job hunt. I promise you that, the few hours or days (subject to your abilities) you will dedicate to building a job search strategy will not only save you much time, energy reputation and from the sour feeling of rejection.
Here a few pointers to get you kick-started:
– Choose your career path by listing your past accomplishments against your future aspirations and derive what role, level, industry, and the company you want to work with next. Think about what competencies and transferable skills you can highlight to your next employer.
– Brand Yourself to the target job market by writing your resume and LinkedIn profile with achievements and skills that are relevant to the target job and keep it simple and short. Sanitise your unwanted public information online.
– Create a list of potential employers and read about them, with that done you will be able to write a cover letter targeting the companies pain points that you can resolve.
– Find the right contact for the role – do not target HR recruiters for a job, instead, look for the head of the department that you wish to join and apply to them directly.
– Maintain a job tracker that will help you know the status of each application with follow-up dates.
– Network, Network, and Network – one on one networking can be miraculous for creating opportunities.
– Promote yourself – you can set yourself up for getting headhunted by the company, rather than you applying to them.
