Through my journey as a resume writer, I have realised that job seekers more than often tend to put a lot of stress on perfecting their resumes and expect it to do magic for them in their job search.
A resume is a marketing tool and not the sole ingredient of your job search, there has to be concentrated efforts to use this tool along with networking, relationship building, honing your interviewing skills, knowledge and polishing your image and confidence.
The popular belief is that resumes land jobs, which is surely not true. The resume’s sole purpose is to land you an interview call. If employers like what they see in your resume, they’ll contact you to schedule an interview, which you need to later crack.
The term “resume” comes from the French word resume, which means “to summarize.” And that’s just what a resume is, it is a summary of your qualifications, skills & experience that employers are looking for.
It is a snapshot of you and when built professionally it manoeuvres the employer to understand the fitment and call you for a meeting.
Plus, it may be the last piece of evidence they review before making a final hiring decision. So don’t go job hunting without one……a really good one.
