must haves on your resume

COLOUR CODED LIST OF MUST HAVES ON YOUR RESUME

Here is a sample resume as shared by Jonathan Javier. The document is colour coded to show you the must haves on your resume:

🔴RED IS ACTION VERBS

Start each bullet with an action verb. The action verb is the key to making your resume more engaging and impactful. It can help you describe what you’ve done succinctly and persuasively. i.e., collaborated (teamwork skills), steered (leadership skills), revamped (efficiency), scaled (outside the box thinking). Put present tense if it is your current role (Collaborating), if in past role, use past tense (Collaborated).

🔵 BLUE IS ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Accomplishments are specific examples of how you have positively impacted an organization or project. They provide evidence of your skills, experience, and abilities. They highlight if you have improved, optimized, or made a difference in a role. They help the hiring manager understand your potential value to their organization.

🟢 GREEN IS QUANTIFICATION

Always add impact metrics to your past performance. Metrics demonstrate your work’s tangible impact and provides concrete evidence of your achievements, which is crucial for attracting employers. It sets you apart from other applications. Metrics can include numerical data like sales revenue generated, percentage growth, cost savings, or time saved. Get these by checking your KPIs, asking your peers/managers, calculating estimations based on your own observations. But do not lie on your resume. For example, if you increased revenues by 15,000%, that seems fake.

🟠 ORANGE IS HARD SKILLS/TOOLS

Customise specific hard skills/tools/platforms based on the target job posting requirements. You can increase your chances of passing the initial screening process with the ATS by including relevant hard and technical skills on your resume. Employers also want to see evidence that you possess the necessary hard/technical skills, so include them throughout your experience instead of only listing them.

🟡 YELLOW IS SOFT SKILLS

You need to demonstrate soft skills, rather than just list them, to prove to potential employers that you can use them. Communicating, working in a team, solving problems, and adapting are all soft skills. In your resume, listing soft skills without demonstrating how you have used them is ineffective. Your soft skills should be demonstrated in action to employers.

Follow these must haves on your resume to create an impact on your potential employer.
