A few job search tips, trends, and strategies that you need to know for 2023.
➡️Job eligibility is changing
There was a time when many job descriptions included questionable degree requirements; however, in recent years, employers have started hiring based on skills instead of long-years of degrees.
People with applied experience are in high demand by companies. As new-age companies develop company-led training programs, skills and abilities are prioritized over degrees. An internship, project work, specialized training, or certification can be used to gain practical experience.
➡️Employers are hiring lifelong learners
Due to rapid changes in the workplace, businesses are realizing the importance of hiring lifelong learners because of a skill gap created by two factors. (1) The number of graduates seeking their first jobs is on the rise, and students are taught skills employers aren’t looking for. Although universities believe they produce employable people, the majority of employers disagree. (2) Long-term employees who lack the skills and technologies necessary for today’s workplace. Hence, lifelong learners will remain competitive and marketable on the job market. Upskill through project work, online learning, and certificate programs.
➡️Don’t get left behind, move quickly
Five years ago, none of the new top 10 jobs existed. New roles pop up every day, and some go away. There’s a boom in edutech companies that offer training and development. If you’re evaluating careers, think about growth potential and long-term need. Build your career marketing materials (resume, cover letter, LinkedIn profile, interview answers) to highlight your newly acquired skills and latest know-how.
➡️Maintain a focused mindset
For years, the hiring process has been broken, and it just keeps getting worse. Instead of complaining about the hiring process, prepare yourself mentally. Keep a focused mindset and accept that your job search will not be smooth, you will face technology challenges, complicated processes, and frequent surprises. Do what you can control and don’t worry about what you can’t.
➡️Apply social proof to land a job
Social proof online helps recruiters verify your skills, characteristics, and culture fit. Curate your online profile carefully, but don’t be invisible. Employers are less likely to call a candidate in for an interview if they can’t find them online. Build credibility and a reputation through social media. Employers will look for you first on LinkedIn. Display on LinkedIn your transferrable skills and expertise relevant to the next role.
