HOW TO WRITE RESUME BULLET POINTS

Bullet points on your resume tells anyone who reads it everything relevant about your work, making them more likely or persuading them to contact you for an interview. For this reason, you need to make sure they are finely tuned and powerful enough to get you where you need to be.

But one of the most common questions I get is how many bullet points should I have and where should they be put? How can I make them impactful?

Here are some pointers you may use:

➡️ Ideally, there should not be more than seven bullet points on a resume. However, one accomplishment or highlight should be included in one bullet point.

➡️ The majority of your bullet points should be from your most recent or most relevant jobs. (Related to the target role you are applying for)

➡️ Adding bullet points for earlier and not-so-relevant roles is not necessary, but you can still list the jobs as previous experience.

➡️ Consider the length of each position in relation to the number of bullet points.

➡️ Each bullet point should demonstrate a different skill or accomplishment you would bring to the target position.

➡️ Don’t repeat the same accomplishments in multiple bullet points.

➡️ Avoid making your bullets too dense or long by cramming too much into them.

➡️ Use bullet points in other sections as well, it makes it easier to read.

➡️ Instead of listing job duties, use bullet points to highlight achievements.

➡️ Whenever possible, quantify your past achievements and experiences.

➡️ Use strong action verbs to start your bullet points.

➡️ Each bullet point should be tailored to the job you are applying for.

➡️ Whenever possible, incorporate keywords from the job description.

➡️ Choose standard bullet point styles and avoid fancy ones.

➡️ All bullet points should be capitalized, verb tensed, and punctuated consistently.
