Client: Why do I need to have a targeted resume?
Me: To prove that you have the skills the employer is seeking and have previously used them to create optimal results at work. Also, it helps in aligning you to the role so that you get called for the interview.
Client: How do I do that?
Me: Here are a few steps that you can take to stitch your resume to match the target role:
🎯 Understand what employers are looking for by researching job postings, employees, companies, news, etc.
🎯 Highlight the mandatory hard skills that are verifiable such as qualifications, certifications, technical skills, software packages, industry-specific methodologies, etc.
🎯 Instead of listing soft skills like team player, leadership, communication, etc., demonstrate them.
🎯Highlight and include only relevant experience and information that the recruiter needs to know.
🎯Emphasize the parts of your experience that best fit the job you’re applying for.
🎯Find out what keywords they are seeking and highlight that on your resume.
🎯Select the most relevant achievements from past roles to highlight in your bullet points.
🎯Choose accomplishments that demonstrate transferable skills and highlight any upskilling.
🎯Add the exact title of the job you’re applying for at the top of your resume, you can add the word ‘aspiring’ in case your existing title is different or it’s a career switch.
🎯Customize your summary for every job you apply for and include how you successfully resolved their pain points.
🎯Customize your skills section, it helps recruiters find the information they’re looking for at a glance.
🎯Don’t forget to add a cover letter that explains your fitment and any other info that’s not on the resume.
