As a former Talent Acquisition professional, I’ve never turned down an applicant because they used a basic textual resume template. Honestly, I prefer simple to unnecessarily over-designed.
All I need is a document that I can easily read that shows how you’re the right fit for the target job and accomplishments that prove it. It’s that simple.
I definitely don’t need to see fancy graphics, images, fancy fonts, tables charts, headshots etc. Instead, put short bullet points under each job title with only relevant outcomes.
Consider the hiring manager’s perspective when writing your resume. Ask yourself:
➡️How easy is it to navigate through the resume sections?
➡️Are the keywords & experience on my resume relevant to my next target role?
➡️Can laymen understand my statements without being overwhelmed by technical terms?
➡️What aspects am I selling that a company would buy?
➡️How do they decide the shortlisting?
➡️How can I position myself to help them hire me?
