🧱STEP 1
Make sure you understand the requirements from the job description. Make a note of any skills or qualities that are important for the job in the job description, then examine your resume to see if these words appear in your own experience. If they aren’t, rewrite your resume using the same or similar keywords and qualifications you found in the job description.
For instance, your resume should include terms such as copyediting, proofreading, web content, SEO, blogging, etc. when applying for a job as a Content Creator. The words on your resume will determine whether you get an interview call or not. A pro tip is to print the JD and mark out skills and then find words in your current resume that can be easily swapped for the words in the job description.
🧱STEP 2
Identify why this role is needed and what problems it will solve. Identify your most relevant experience with outcomes in solving these specific problem statements and list them right on top.
For instance, if you’re applying for a recruiter role in a startup that might have difficulty attracting talent. Add your past experiences with results on how you have helped with brand building or creating recruiting strategies to attract talent. Don’t add irrelevant skills like volume hiring etc.
🧱STEP 3
Learn the company’s values and reflect them on your resume. Highlight how your values align with theirs. You’ll demonstrate your sense of character this way, which is a simple and easy way to make an impression.
For instance, if you are applying for a product management role, and the company states that its vision is to create user-friendly products. Highlight how in the past experience with results you have enhanced user experience with data insights.
Look for the about us section on the company’s website to find a paragraph or two detailing their core values. The job description might even mention these traits as well
