It is common for resume bullet points to start with the same old words such as managed, handles, responsible for, or assisted with. Hiring managers have heard these words over and over again. As a result, they have lost a lot of their meaning, they don’t really showcase your accomplishments and are rarely impactful.
Your resume is your very own marketing document. Using the right action verbs can make potential employers form a positive connection to your abilities and make them want to meet you to know you more. You can think of action verbs as “motivating”. They motivate potential employers to take action, by identifying with the action verbs, and in turn, taking action to the next step.
So how do we create an impact on the reader of our resume with these verbs? Consider replacing a few of those common words with strong, compelling action verbs the next time you update your resume. In this series I will pick up one attribute for each post and give you sample action verbs.
