The ATS reads your resume text and divides the resume into the different resume sections: Work Experience, Education, Skills, Languages, Certifications, etc. It then searches for specific keywords and qualifications to see whether you match the job description or not.

While it may be tempting to use fancy fonts and complicated formatting, it is best to stick to a simple and straightforward format. ATS software cannot read complex formatting, so it is best to keep it simple and easy to read. A system will not be able to read data placed in images, tables, icons, logos so it’s advisable to avoid them altogether.

In spite of all the talk about taking advantage of easily scannable ATS complaint templates and layout, the most critical factor is the resume content/ text. Use specific keywords from the target job description. Use resume language that’s not clumsy, and form sentences correctly. Keep it simple and avoid jargon and abbreviations so as not to confuse the ATS and BOT.
Additionally, use standard section headings to highlight your skills, experience, and education. This will help the ATS identify the different sections of your resume and make it easier for the employer to find the information they are looking for. Make sure you include ONLY the relevant information. This will help the ATS match your resume with the job requirements.
