Further to my last post here are the next 5 ways you are messing up your resume with:
6. Your resume has images – Surely a picture is worth a thousand words only if you are auditioning for a role or showcasing your designing creative skills. For all other roles, the ATS will reject your resume since it cannot read images.
7. Soft skills over hard skills – The recruiter searches for hard skills such as “python” and “Tally” and not for subjective characteristics such as “leadership” or “team player”.
8. A resume is not a job description – Be smart & focus on your achievements and not your duties, core tasks, or responsibilities, making the resume more relatable, comparable, impactful, and of course, catchy. Avoid copying matter from the JD to the resume as it is.
9. Proofreading is critical to success – A resume is not a rough draft, it’s the real deal. There’s no spell check on your resume, nor have you asked someone to check the grammar. It contains an extra digit, an incorrect date, or incorrect contact information. Once drafted, you do not check it. Oops!
10. Use Metrics – Quantify achievements, give numbers, and make relative comparisons rather than absolute ones. A recruiter is unable to interpret what the smartest accounts person means, they need to see credibility with numbers.
